Truancy levels in New Zealand are now some of the worst in the OECD

Truancy levels in New Zealand are now some of the worst in the OECD

Data released to National shows the average time it takes to re-engage non-enrolled students has increased by about 30 days since 2017.

It comes as the Government looks set to announce a package to tackle high truancy levels in the coming days.

A 2018 international survey found 29 percent of students here reported skipping school at least one day, compared with the OECD average of 21 percent.
