A congestion charge would make an effective difference in traffic reduction

A congestion charge would make an effective difference in traffic reduction

The Government's expected to announce next week, that a congestion charge is on the cards for Auckland's CBD in 2025.

A Helen Clark Foundation report has found such a charge could cut congestion by 12 percent, but researchers say the process needs to be brought in fairly.

Report author and WSP Fellow Tom James says public transport needs to be improved.

He says there are gaps in the frequency and cost of services.
