The Employment Court has redefined employment law when it comes to Gloriavale members

The Employment Court has redefined employment law when it comes to Gloriavale members

Three former workers took the community and the Labour Inspectorate to court after previous investigations found residents were not employees.

The Employment Court has now found the ex-residents were employees from the age of six, not volunteers.

Labour Inspectorate National Manager Stu Lumsden says this ruling has clarified the inspectorate's jurisdiction, when working out an individual's employment status.

He says now they're able to work with the three plaintiffs to take enforcement action.
