Almost 80 million dollars worth of claims have been made for damage from storms and flash flooding that affected the upper north island in March

More than seven-thousand-600 claims include domestic, commercial, vehicle damage - and business interruption.

Insurance Council Chief Executive Tim Grafton says climate driven extreme weather events meant a record year for such claims in 2021, at $324 million.

He says coordinated action to reduce climate change risks must be given a higher priority.
