In 1993, the Christchurch Civic Creche worker was convicted of sexually abusing seven children, and served seven yearsin jail -- but always maintained his innocence.
Ellis died of cancer in 2019, but last October his case was appealed to the Supreme Court.
Journalist Jo Malcolm told The Front Page podcast the woman remembers crying at her mother, trying to stop her leaving her.
She says the children now in their 30s, are terrified -- because for decades they've faced trauma and disbelief.
The victim says she was told her parents would be killed if she told anyone -- and feels although he got a jail term, she got a life sentence.
