Carlos Sainz has edged reigning Formula One champion Max Verstappen by just .072 second, to claim pole position at the British Grand Prix

The Spanish driver conquered the rain and the field at Silverstone in his Ferrari to earn his first career pole - in his 150th start.

Teammate Charles Leclerc - who claimed six of Ferrari's seven poles in 10 races this season, will start third, ahead of Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.

Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth for his home race - Mercedes teammate George Russell was eighth.

Of the Kiwi drivers in the Formula 2 sprint race, Marcus Armstrong was ninth and Liam Lawson last.
