Several nurses failed their clinical responsibilities after an elderly woman died, a Health and Disability Commission report has found

In 2019, an elderly woman with diabetes died less than 24 hours after arriving at a rest home owned and operated by Oceania Care Company Limited.

Deputy Commissioner Rose Wall says two registered nurses failed to provide services to her with reasonable care and skill.

She says the care provided fell short of acceptable standards in a number of areas in that 24 hour time frame.

Multiple recommendations were made, including for Oceania review its policies and guidance for staff.
