    Dean Barker can see the irony of his decision to join Alinghi's campaign for the next America's Cup


    The former Team New Zealand helmsman was back up to Russell Coutts before he, Brad Butterworth and co were poached by Ernesto Bertarelli after the 2000 defence in Auckland.

    Barker helmed the 2003 defence which was swept 5-nil by Alinghi.



    Barker stresses his role is part-time.
