Christchurch's earthquakes could hold the key how to manage severe weather events

Christchurch's earthquakes could hold the key how to manage severe weather events

A new book, A Decade of Disaster Experiences in Otautahi Christchurch, argues that traditional responses to disasters are no longer sufficient.

It comes as Nelson remains in a state of emergency after the region received a deluge of rainfall last week.

Auckland University Professor and co-author Steve Matthewman says Christchurch is known to stand well during a crisis.

He says it's a city that's had to completely re-build itself on multiple different occasions.
