    Christchurch's earthquakes could hold the key how to manage severe weather events



    A new book, A Decade of Disaster Experiences in Otautahi Christchurch, argues that traditional responses to disasters are no longer sufficient.

    It comes as Nelson remains in a state of emergency after the region received a deluge of rainfall last week.

    Auckland University Professor and co-author Steve Matthewman says Christchurch is known to stand well during a crisis.

    He says it's a city that's had to completely re-build itself on multiple different occasions.
