A rahui's in place near Kaikoura as friends and families continue grieving loved ones lost in a shock charter boat accident

Te Runanga o Kaikoura has placed the rahui from Paia Point to Omihi campground and 500-metres from the shore for two weeks.

Five of the 11 people on board the 8.5-metre boat died after it capsized in flat, perfect conditions on Saturday morning.

Heartfelt tributes have emerged for the victims.

Kaikoura District Council Mayor Craig Mackle says his small community is tight-knit, and the tragic event is felt deeply by everyone.
