Figures reveal Tauranga's housing stock is in a much dire state than previously believed

Figures reveal Tauranga's housing stock is in a much dire state than previously believed

New research puts its housing shortage at around seven-and-a-half-thousand in the next decade.

    Previous figures estimated just 15-hundred.

If unresolved it could result in median housing prices rising from one-million to more than 1.6-million, and the weekly rent surging from 620-dollars, to just under a thousand.

Commissioner Stephen Selwood says the Tauranga City Council is seeking government support for critical infrastructure investment, and policy to unlock more housing options.

He says funding for new roading and public transport are key.
