Conflict over who will pay for a safety upgrade at the entranceway of an in-demand water park

Conflict over who will pay for a safety upgrade at the entranceway of an in-demand water park

The owners at Central Otago's Kiwi Water Park fears indecision over safety improvements, could leave it without a licence to operate over the summer.

Waka Kotahi says all parties met in June to discuss a traffic assessment, but there was a disagreement on who would be responsible for funding the upgrade.

A spokesperson says if no agreement is reached - the final decision sits with the Central Otago District Council as the consent authority.

A resource consent has been issued by council to operate, but a recreational permit is needed from Land Information New Zealand.

LINZ Head of Crown Property Sonya Wikitera says they're considering an application from the park to operate.
