Detective Senior Sergeant Damon Wells says the man tried to drag away a woman jogging on Kotare Street at 6.20 on Monday morning.
The man is described as being 25 to 33 years old, possibly of Indian descent, medium build, 176 to179cm tall, with short black hair and a short beard.
Police would like to speak with anyone who recognises him, or anyone in the area at the time who may have witnessed the offence.
