Central Christchurch businesses are calling for private security patrols to remain in the city

Central Christchurch businesses are calling for private security patrols to remain in the city

City Council staff are considering their next steps following a successful three month trial - including formally approaching council for a long-term option.

The Central City Business Association is paying - due to the council not having any funding available for the rest of the year.

Association chair Annabel Turley says she hasn't heard what the long-term option is, but is hopeful it's in the works.

She says the feedback has been amazing from retailers - and while they haven't had issues, having a safety team on the ground shows it's a safe place to come shopping.
