An Auckland team focused on suicide prevention, are being recognised today

The Road Safety, Emergency Response and Healthcare Awards have been given out this morning.

The 'Auckland System Management Alliance' from Waka Kotahi won the National Award for Road Safety for their contribution towards the prevention of road-related suicide over the past decade.

Canterbury University Road Safety Specialist, Alan Nicholson, says they've never given an award out for this before.

He says the team have been successful in getting the road controlling authority, to recognise certain overbridge's and highways could be sites of suicides.
