Public health experts are warning New Zealand can't drop its guard as a new sub-variant of Covid sets alarm bells ringing

Public health experts are warning New Zealand can't drop its guard as a new sub-variant of Covid sets alarm bells ringing

A new Omicron strain, nicknamed the Kraken after a fictitious Scandinavian sea monster, is surging through the U.S - and has been detected in Australia, and much of Europe.

The World Health Organisation has labelled the XBB.1.5 strain the most transmissible sub-variant detected yet

Auckland University Covid expert Anna Brooks says the bottom line is New Zealand needs a surveillance system.

She says we can't just shut up shop and pretend Covid has gone away, when it hasn't.
