Associate Minister of Health Dr Ayesha Verrall says over 5,000 vials of the vaccine have been obtained enough for over 20,000 people.
From Monday, those who are close contacts of someone infected such as household member or a sexual partner will be eligible for the jab, if prescribed by a medical practitioner.
Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with multiple partners and trans and cis gender women who have sex with these men will also be eligible.
Two doses of the vaccine are needed, 28 days apart.
The minister says there are 41 cases of the virus in New Zealand and it hasn't taken hold of the country like around other parts of the world.
