Titewhai Harawira is being mourned as a wahine toa who never stopped advocating for Maori

The activist and matriarch died this morning, aged 90, in her Avondale home.

She was a prominent figure in Maori politics, accompanying Prime Ministers at Waitangi and staunchly unafraid to support wahine in leadership.

Labour Party Deputy Leader, Kelvin Davis, says she'll be sorely missed.

He says even aged 90, she was still talking about Waitangi .

He says she most recently spoke about the latest Waitangi Tribunal report and the aspirations for Ngapuhi.
