Auckland Emergency Management is reminding residents to stay vigilant, ahead of forecasts for more thunderstorms and heavy rain

Auckland Emergency Management is reminding residents to stay vigilant, ahead of forecasts for more thunderstorms and heavy rain

Duty Controller, Fleur Aldridge says there's a moderate risk the storms could become severe, generating localised downpours of 25 to 40 millimetres per hour.

She says rainfall of this intensity can potentially lead to surface or flash-flooding in low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, more than seven-thousand building assessments have been completed throughout the super-city.

Just under 580 buildings have been red-stickered -- including damage from both Cyclone Gabrielle, and the January floods.
