Lawrence Rangiwai was killed by his daughter-in-law and caregiver Stella Maru, when she physically assaulted him in August 2021 for not showering.
The 73-year-old died of a neck injury in hospital, during which Maru put together a lie with her partner, saying Mr Rangiwai tripped over a vacuum.
Maru was sentenced to 12 months home detention and 12 months post-detention conditions, for manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
She says her actions were due to a loss of self-control, brewing from having little support caring for Mr Rangiwai.
