Parts of the North Island's east coast battered by bad weather through the long weekend still aren't out of the woods

A heavy rain warning applies to Coromandel and Gisborne until late this evening - with up to 60 millimetres rain possible.

MetService Meteorologist John Law says motorists should be wary of potential flash flooding.

He says those areas will get intense bursts of rain before the system moves further east.
