Mount Hutt Ski field is set to be the first ski field open nationwide this year, and some are very keen to hit the snow

The field is open from about now until 4pm.

A keen skier's spent two nights on a chair lift, so he could one of the first to hit the slopes.

Mount Hutt Ski Area Manager James McKenzie says they've been forced to help mother nature out, so riders can have the best experience.

He says while there hasn't been a lot of natural snow, they've been using their snow machines to pump hundreds of tons.
