Christchurch City Councillors will consider replacing a lane of traffic with car parking, outside Christchurch Hospital

Christchurch City Councillors will consider replacing a lane of traffic with car parking, outside Christchurch Hospital

In a report to Council, Mayor Phil Mauger is suggesting a ten-day trial of the plan along Hagley and Riccarton Avenues, to create at least fifty car parks for use by visitors to the hospital by day, and doctors and nurses by night.

It's after an earlier suggestion for parking on the berm of Hagley Park was discounted by staff, because of a law banning it from happening.

A new 450-space parking building is under construction nearby, on the corner of St Asaph Street and Hagley Avenue.
