    A big night for Southland -- with many residents without power as the region remains under a state of emergency


    PowerNet reports widespread outages, expected to be fully restored by 11:30pm.

    MetService has a Heavy Rain Watch in place for Otago -- while its been lifted for Southland and Clutha.

    However, it remains for areas about and north of a line Mossburn to Balclutha.

    A water treatment plant in Tuatapere has been inundated by flood-waters, and residents should conserve water.
