A scathing review of Christchurch City Council's response to the fire at Bromley's wastewater plant

An independent report says council had poor or non-existent relationships with residents - and the response and recovery weren't appropriate.

Residents downwind of the vile-smelling plant have consistently raised concerns that health hazards linked to the plant have been ignored.

Council's Acting Chief Executive Mary Richardson says they wanted an independent review to understand what could have been done better.

She says they recognise re-building trust with the eastern communities will take time, and concerted effort and council resources.
