A Wellington City Councillor wants advice around potentially demolishing the Michael Fowler Centre

A Wellington City Councillor wants advice around potentially demolishing the Michael Fowler Centre

The council has just approved another budget increase for the Town Hall redevelopment - pushing the final cost to up to 329-million dollars.

The Michael Fowler Centre and Opera House were given quake-prone building notices earlier in the year.

Councillor Iona Pannett says experts should examine the costs and benefits around bowling the centre.

She says as a heritage advocate, she'd be more sympathetic towards retaining buildings, but thinks we need to take a balanced approach.
