People in Christchurch are being told not be alarmed - if they hear the police Eagle helicopter overhead this week

Police are conducting tactical training in the Port Hills on Friday and Saturday.

Acting District Commander Superintendent Lane Todd says it will take place across private farm properties, all day and into the evening.

Todd says locals may see and hear the Eagle above Tai Tapu and below the Summit Road - and hear loud bangs from training firearms.

Police will contact neighbours before the exercise starts.
