Shoppers will continue to be able to park on Auckland's Karangahape Road... for now

Shoppers will continue to be able to park on Auckland's Karangahape Road... for now

Proposed plans to remove parking have been delayed after Auckland Transport was hit by a chorus of criticism by Mayor Wayne Brown, Councillor Mike Lee and local business.

Parking was supposed to be scrapped today, to help the WX1 bus service get through more easily.

The service will start today, connecting Westgate to bus interchanges at Lincoln and Te Atatu and will then carry on to the city centre.

Buses will come every 10 minutes via the Northwestern Motorway.

Waitakere Councillor Shane Henderson says 37 thousand new houses and 11 thousand new jobs will be added to the north and northwest in the next 20 years.

He says the infrastructure needs to be their to support that growth.
