The one-dollar fee to use Southland's only paid toilet has been canned, after 'unpleasant consequences'

Paying someone to monitor the loo installed in Te Anau's Lion Park more than a decade ago, cost more than it earned from users.
Fiordland's Community Board Chair, Diane Holmes says it was always problematic for tourists who arrived needing a pit stop - with no cash in their pocket.
She says it's chaos whenever tourist buses arrive at the lake front.
Holmes says she often sees people give up hunting for loose change, and heading into the park's bushes to do their business instead.
