Health experts are voicing frustration hopes of a smoke-free generation have been scuppered

Health experts are voicing frustration hopes of a smoke-free generation have been scuppered

The new coalition Government will repeal the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Amendment Bill - to pay for tax cuts.

The laws seek to reduce smoking prevalence to five percent by 2025, and include banning cigarette sales to anyone born after 2008.

Health Coalition co-chair Lisa Te Morenga says the most important part of the legislation was de-nicotisation.

She says by 2025, nicotine levels would have been so low - cigarettes would no longer be addictive.
