Camila Cabello has become "obsessed" with beauty

The 26-year-old pop star used to consider the beauty industry to be "frivolous" - but her attitude has evolved over recent years

Camila - who was born in Mexico City and spent some of her childhood in Havana, Cuba - told PEOPLE: "It's really evolved so much. I feel like when I was younger and I started working, beauty was just the last thing on my mind.

"Being in an immigrant family ... it felt frivolous to me. Now I'm like, 'No, it's actually just an expression of joy and what it means to be alive.' I'm obsessed with beauty now. It's just so fun."

Camila's style has been heavily influenced by her mom, Sinuhe.

The singer - who shot to stardom as part of Fifth Harmony - explained: "She will be like, 'Your whole vibe is amazing, but you got to fix that part.' For her, it's always been [about how] looking your best really makes you feel more confident. It's not some frivolous, shallow thing.

"It makes you feel better for you. It's true."

By contrast, Camila previously admitted that she struggled with anxiety during her late teens and early 20s.

The 'Havana' hitmaker told Cosmopolitan magazine: "It was something I just lived with. I was used to having functioning anxiety that got really bad every half a year.

"Then I started opening up to friends, and I realised how much suffering and neuroses are normal, and that we're all crazy in our own way, but when it keeps you from having healthy relationships and being more often than not in a relatively stable place, that I needed to seek out some therapy.

"Talking about it really helped me realise, 'Oh, I think this is making my life harder than it is for other people.'"
