Kiwis are expecting to keep a bit more cash in their wallets over the next year

Kiwis are expecting to keep a bit more cash in their wallets over the next year

The Westpac McDermott Miller Consumer Confidence Index rose 8.7 points in December to 88.9.

    That's still well below average.

Senior Economist Satish Ranchhod says the headwinds buffeting the economy are starting to ease.

He says changing Government is making people optimistic.

Ranchhod says inflation is starting to ease and pressure's coming off interest rates, which will be important for households and their disposable income.
