Rail works in Wellington are set to close the regions commuter trains for almost two weeks from today

Rail works in Wellington are set to close the regions commuter trains for almost two weeks from today

Nearly a thousand people will be starting work on several major rail projects, including the 700-million dollar Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme.

KiwiRail Chief Capital Planning and Asset Development Officer David Gordon says they're doing work no one wants to do, but their goal is to reduce the level of intervention needed on the networks.

The Wairarapa Line will stay closed until 14 January.
