A push to broaden the eligibility for young adults to get the meningococcal B vaccine for free

A push to broaden the eligibility for young adults to get the meningococcal B vaccine for free

The jab was added to the National Immunisation Schedule at the start of March.

Since then, the number of doses given to those under five has skyrocketed, compared with the six months prior.

But Chair Gerard Rushton says uptake among 13 to 25-year-olds has been much slower due to the criteria restricting vaccination to those in their first year of certain close-living situations.

He says we should be having the same numbers protected there, as we are in the other groups, but it's not happening -- so they're calling on the Government to open up the criteria.
