Trevor Mallard's reflecting on the moments that stood out to him from his time in Parliament

Trevor Mallard's reflecting on the moments that stood out to him from his time in Parliament

He's been made a Sir in the New Year Honours - for services as a member of Parliament and as Speaker of the House.

Mallard says he thinks committee work is underrated -- he says our MPs have more in common than in most countries and ours often do well to identify ways to work together.

Sir Trevor says there were lots of highlights and low points within the Chamber early in his career.

He says the terror Sir Robert Muldoon could cause, the pure oratory skills of David Lange, the speech crafting of Don McKinnon and the sometimes savage wit of Michael Cullen - were all unforgettable.
