    Civil Defence and other agencies have met today to prepare for heavy rain in Westland


    They'll have staff on the ground around the district tonight and tomorrow.

    It's under a red heavy rain warning -- with peak falls expected from about midday tomorrow.

    MetService says 600-to-800 millimetres of rain could fall about the ranges, and up-to-200 on the coast.

    Slips and floodwaters are likely to block roads.

    A close watch is also being kept on the Grey District - which is under an Orange alert.
