StatsNZ data shows seasonally adjusted retail sales volume fell 1.9-percent in the December 2023 quarter.
It's the eighth quarterly fall in a row, starting back in March 2022.
Business and financial statistics manager Melissa Mckenzie says all 15 industries, bar pharmaceuticals, saw fewer sales.
She says the industries with the biggest falls were motor vehicle retailing, food and beverage services and fuel.
