State highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty has reopened after a fatal crash

Two people were trapped in a two-vehicle collision at Tanners Point, about six kilometres north of Katikati, just before five.

One person died at the scene.

Another was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The highway reopened about half-an-hour ago.
