A former contender could be welcomed back to plug the Melbourne Rebels expected exit from Super Rugby

With the Rebels faced with $20 million in debt, the team seems destined to fold.

Insiders have told the Herald the Argentinian side are committed and "ready to go".

Speaking on the Rugby Direct podcast, NZR chief executive Mark Robinson indicated any expansion needs to be carefully considered after the inconsistent formats of the last 15 years.
