The Act Party leader appears to be dashing any hopes of Government support for Newshub

Warner Bros Discovery has proposed closing the newsroom from July - after an emergency staff meeting this morning.

About 200 jobs could be lost - including high-profile presenters Samantha Hayes, Mike McRoberts and Patrick Gower.

Asked by reporters whether Government could step in, David Seymour says it's not their role to own television stations.

He says he questions whether the Government ownership of TVNZ, and its poor returns have contributed to an uncompetitive market.
