Ideas are flying over how to keep news media from going under - including introducing new levy's

TVNZ has proposed cancelling four of its flagship news and current affairs shows, following the announcement Newshub will be axed come June.

Better Public Media Trust suggests a levy on digital advertising or lifting a current levy on communication companies.

Chair Peter Thompson says it could involve people paying an extra dollar for their internet.

He says that would raise the kind of money needed to maintain public media and re-invest in news across the board.
