Pharmac has decided a rule, that automatically funds medicines for child cancer patients, will remain

Pharmac has decided a rule, that automatically funds medicines for child cancer patients, will remain

Most children with cancer are treated with medicines funded through Pharmac's Pharmaceutical Schedule.

But every year, a small number require medicines Pharmac hasn't assessed.

These medicines can be made available through Rule 8.1b - and can have a huge impact on treatment and health outcomes.

Pharmac says it made the decision after consultation with individuals, families, clinicians and other health organisations.

It's next steps will be improving governance and oversight of treatment decisions made under the rule.
