A GP has been found in breach of the Health and Disability code for his care of a teen who was circumcised for cultural reasons

After the operation the GP examined the surgical site - with his family in the room and without consent, and advised the teen to lose weight.

The GP has been accused of acting disrespectfully.

Health and Disability Commissioner Dr Vanessa Caldwell ordered the man to give the teen a written apology - and to complete training around informed consent.

Caldwell noted that the GP had already made several changes after the report.
