Police should complete examinations tonight of the site of a mass brawl in Gisborne on Saturday - which left two dead

Family say one was a man celebrating his 21st birthday - and three people are in hospital with stab wounds, one critical.

A 29-year-old man has appeared in court on a charge of injuring with intent.

Detective Inspector David de Lange says they've identified more than 40 witnesses from the party.

He says there's still people who were there who would've seen or heard something - and they'd like them to approach Police.

De Lange says they're aware of videos of the altercation and are asking anyone with footage to contact them.
