One of the country's largest electricity providers will trial a self-drive vehicle - in an agreement with WorkSafe

It's after the uncontrolled release of geothermal steam at Mercury's Rotokawa power station near Taupo in 2021.

No one was injured, but WorkSafe found shortcomings in plant installations and risk assessment.

Mercury has developed a safety plan that includes using the vehicle for plant inspections.

As a result of the agreement, Worksafe's charges against the electricity provider have been discontinued.
