Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has urged people to prioritise their health

The 64-year-old author - who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew - was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in January, months after revealing she was suffering from breast cancer, and she has appealed for others to ensure they "check in" with themselves and do what it takes to stay as physically and mentally well as possible.

She wrote on Instagram on Sunday (07.04.24): "Today on #WorldHealthDay, I would like to remind anyone who may be reading this to check in with yourself. Check in on your state of mind and check in on your body. Go to your routine health check. Take that walk. Read a book. Your body and mind are a priority. Make sure to show them love.(sic)"

Sarah revealed in January she had been diagnosed with skin cancer after doctors found a malignant melanoma.

It came months after she underwent treatment for breast cancer in May 2023, with doctors having found the disease following a routine mammogram.

She confirmed last month her skin cancer hadn't spread following surgery, and a source toldThe Sun newspaper about her current condition: "It looks like there has been no spread of the disease and the prognosis is good, but she'll have to have regular check-ups going forward."

A spokesperson for the duchess said at the time of her cancer diagnosis: "Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.

"Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.

"She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages.

"Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing but the Duchess remains in good spirits.

"The Duchess wants to thank the entire medical team which has supported her, particularly her dermatologist whose vigilance ensured the illness was detected when it was.

"She believes her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, colour and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma."
