Another drenching today for those in the South Island

Another drenching today for those in the South Island

Civil Defence is on alert for evacuations, and sandbags are being placed around homes in the West Coast districts, as heavy rain continues to fall on sodden ground.

Northern parts will see widespread rain set in through the day and gales in the evening.

Temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days, with MetService issuing road snowfall warnings for major routes in the South Island.
