A second dog's infected with babesiosis in Christchurch - after contact with New Zealand's first case, discovered last weekend

A second dog's infected with babesiosis in Christchurch - after contact with New Zealand's first case, discovered last weekend

It hasn't shown signs of illness from the tick-borne disease.

The dog was involved in a tussle with the first dog - which became very sick and was euthanised at the owner's request.

Biosecurity NZ Chief Veterinary Officer, Mary van Andel, says they will trace contacts of both dogs - but owners in and outside Christchurch shouldn't be concerned.
