O.J. Simpson allegedly "got angry" with his lawyer when he confiscated his golf clubs

The NFL star - who passed away on Wednesday (10.04.24) at the age of 76 following a battle with cancer - was famously acquitted of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in the 1990s

He was later sued in civil court by the Browns and Goldmans, and they were awarded a liability judgment of $33.5 million in 1997 and now his lawyer John Q. Kelly - who represented the estate of his late ex-wife - has recalled that he was not in favour of him receiving his treasured golf clubs back after his property was seized by police.

He told People: "Believe it or not. The Goldman attorneys consented to have his golf clubs returned to him, and I did not. He asked me why. I told him. I just knew, I knew how much they meant to him, and I was going to hold onto them for now, and he got rather angry with me."

The lawyer remembered O.J as being an individual who was "very full of himself" and with a "large, imposing personality"but doesn't think their dispute was "so much just about the golf clubs".

The footballer always maintained his innocence in the double-murder case and his lawyer believes that he O.J was convinced he was telling the truth "in his mind".

He said: "In his mind, it never happened."

O.J.'s death was confirmed in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, which read: "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.

"He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace - The Simpson Family."
