A man who was frustrated paramedics wouldn't treat an abscess on his buttocks hijacked an ambulance and crashed it twice into a Hamilton motel

A man who was frustrated paramedics wouldn't treat an abscess on his buttocks hijacked an ambulance and crashed it twice into a Hamilton motel

Open Justice reports Levi Ihimaera was on a court-imposed curfew at the time, last November.

After St John staff told the 33-year-old to go to his GP to treat his infection, he used a metal grill to smash his way into the ambulance.

One of the paramedics fled from the driver's seat, but the other was still hiding in the back when Ihimaera drove into the Microtel Motel twice, causing significant damage to the ambulance.

He's been sentenced to two years' intensive supervision.
